Research Blog
Hey guys, my main focus on this blog is about my research for my commercial project. I wasn't sure what to choose, you know? I mean there are so many products that you can film on them so I took a step back and thought about what is it a commercial is supposed to do. That answer is simple: hook the audience to buy the product. So I went searching for a lot of super bowl commercials. I noticed that a lot of them were very heavy on the use of ethos and pathos. It reminded me of my genre from my previous project, which was thriller. I made the connection that thrillers and some commercials are very similar. They get you excited about the product and then your stuck thinking "Well maybe I should buy it." So I had the basic idea of the commercial down, all I needed was the product for it. The first idea I had was to sell a mask. We are going through a pandemic and having a commercial on it would be a good idea since so many people need one. But I realized is that really going to get people out there and get it? People already know they need a mask so why keep pushing it? I thought what is something a lot of people want to see or people do? There were many answers of course but the one that stuck out to me was sports. Some watch it, some play it, others don't really pay attention to it. But sports can bring people together and gets people excited. So I started my research on it. I wanted to do a big brand sell something with popularity, what other than Nike. I looked up a couple of Nike commercials on YouTube and sure enough each one got my attention. The dark lighting having us focus more and easy on the eyes, the dramatic music that raises, and a story that was told that lead to something big. That's what a Nike commercial is about. I'll need to rely on lowkey lighting, use a good soundtrack, but do something that a busy person heading somewhere is willing to stop and look at. Nike's commercial rely heavily on pathos and that's what makes them so good, so that's what I'm going to do.
-Sincerely, Angel
