My Commercial
Hey guys, well this is it, the end of the road for now. This project has reached the final stretch and to finish it off like a good series does I'll do a recap on the journey. At first I had no idea what I wanted to do for this project. I was scared because I didn't think I could get anyone to come film during this pandemic, but luckily I did. Planning for the film after I had a general idea was pretty easy, I just needed to show two people trying their best to improve and "just do it." While at first it was them improving throughout the film I realized that creating that idea was going to have to take more time than I head with a 30 second limit. When it came down to filming I had to change the story of the film and even though it was a pretty big change I think this way was better. Showing the two athletes trying their best and training themselves definitely showed what a Nike commercial is. During the editing process it was all about going through with the story in mind and executing correctly which I believe I did. This project reminded me of the process that goes behind every film. From planning the idea, creating the story board, planning out the film, the stress of filming to get the perfect shot, and then my favorite part of editing it at the end. I've definitely learned a lot from doing this project, I know now for sure that I'm ready to get back into it and be prepared for my next project. Doing this project I realized that my skills with a camera can use some work, understanding that planning for almost every problem is essential, and knowing that I won't always get that perfect shot I want. Looking back at it now I remembered the goal of this project was to sell a product. While I did show case the shoes at the end and showed them throughout the film to show how the athletes used them I strayed away from the actual goal. I focused more on the message that came from Nike which was to "just do it," than actually sell that product, even though that is what Nike does because of their ethical appeal, I don't believe I really followed the goal of the assignment. I believe this is something I should look towards when making my next film or making a commercial because the brand may not be as big as Nike is. I really hope you enjoy the commercial and get a general idea of what I was trying to do with it. 'Till next time.
-Sincerely, Angel
