Title Research: Code 8
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be focusing on the opening sequence of "Code 8" a movie released in 2019. The opening sequence starts to name a lot of the credits. They named the cast, producers, editor, special effects, writers, director, production companies, costume designers, music composers, and executive producers. Finally the name of the film is shown in a glitch effect fixing itself. These names were shown while there was a story being told. The story was about "powered people" in this universe and the effect it had on the economy as well as how they introduced them to the world. The opening sequence for this film serves to create a basis of this world and the different people in it. By giving a back story to the world it lets the audience start imagining where the movie will take place and what will most likely occur in the movie. Although they did reveal things about this universe much of it is still kept secret and still leaves the audience wondering what the title of the movie has to do with the film. Like a thriller should it brought the audience by introducing this world of people with powers. It showed them that it isn't like movies or comics make it seem and the dark truth of this universe when people gain supernatural abilities. Through this aspect of the opening sequence it brings the conventions of a thriller film. One main aspect of this opening sequence that brings out the use of technology is the editing and special effects involved. From the beginning it shows a normal view that is then shifted to show a cameras perspective with a glitch and lines. The sequence follows this pattern of a glitch showing multiple articles and videos of people with fast paced editing. It shows a series of cuts and edits to make it seem glitchy. There is also an array of camera techniques being used, but most of all these scenes seem hand-held, with the minority of them being held by a trained person like a camera person for multiple news outlets. These aspects of this sequence all go into showing what a thrillers opening sequence can look like.
