Genre Research: Code 8

Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be telling you about "Code 8"  a movie released in 2019. It is a sci-fi/thriller film that tells the story of a young man who works for a cartel in order to pay for his mom's medical bills. Overall the movie does its part at hooking the audience and raising your blood pressure like a thriller should. It follows a lot of the conventions a thriller is supposed to have. One main thing that I want to use in my own opening sequence is the low lighting and camera angles that a thriller has and this movie does just that. From the close-ups, dolly's, tracks, tilts/pans, and wide shots this movie does it. It's not only the technology in this film that makes it an exciting thriller. While most people see thrillers to be associated with horror this isn't and it uses the sci-fi aspect of the film to bring its suspense. The idea of super powered individuals pulling of heists puts out everything needed. Especially when the heist is a failed one. This part of the story is probably one of the most intense parts. They trained and planned a heist, but some of the people decided to turn on their team. Although it was predictable they still executed it perfectly. The turn of events caused for characters to die and left only two alive. This lead to the main character using a last resort option in order to save his mom. The writer and director knew what to do to get their audiences blood pumping. Around the end of the movie just when everything seems to be going in the main characters favor, he is hit with another tough decision once again raising the stakes and the hearts of the audience. Although the movie was executed properly everything has it's flaws. One main problem with a thriller is that it revolves around one central character. Just like most thrillers, this one did too. This film did serve its purpose in creating a suspenseful and anxious watching.
