Our Storyboard
Hey guys, this blog is going to be split with pictures and a little caption explaining what's going on. This is our current storyboard and it will more than likely not be exact to the film when it comes to it but we'll follow this is as closely as we can. See you for the production blogs!
This is the opening minute, where we wanted to show the dysfunction in Ash's family life. Here is he shown fighting with his partner Anna in their house. We plan to include a lot of trash and disorganization in the background, along with a lot of over-the-shoulder shots as they go back and forth. Here, Ash is officially kicked out of the house. His finding the red letter signifies the start of the plot rather than just exposition on how the family is.
Ash goes to a secluded area to open the letter, signifying the secrecy and hidden nature of it. We wanted to show how quick Ash could be upset, so showing him upset at the letter was a way to convey that. It then cuts to Ash outside the gambling ring, where, although he is nervous and confused, he gets inspired by the confidence of another person who bumps into him.
Ash enters the gambling ring and at first feels a little out of place, but he quickly becomes in his element once he starts playing. There is a quick progression from simple bets to Ash deciding to go all in, mostly showing his impulsive behavior.
Right after Ash goes all in, he realizes the game is rigged against him. Even in his pleas, he is eventually approached by the guards of the establishment.
Ash is confronted with the consequences of his actions, and in his shock he barely realizes what is going on around him. We plan to keep these shots level, possibly in longer takes with short cuts to facial reactions of both Ash and the mystery man,
After being esccorted to a separate room as to not distrub the other gamblers, Ash is circled by the guards. In almost eerie silence, they make a decision, There is a cut to the front of Ash's house, where he helplessly stands by as the guards enter to find Anna.
Gunshots are heard, leading Ash to scramble into the house only to be overwhelmed by tears. The guards disregard him, leaving in their car to let Ash deal with what has just occurred. There is a final cut to the guards working in an office, monitoring cameras.
In the final scene, the camera will stay on a door that is slammed shut as a commotion is heard. The final shot is of Ash bursting through the door, laughing manically.
Overall, I hope this screenplay gives a better idea to our short film. There is still more we need to expand on, but we now have a scene by scene plan of how the film will go.
