Final Days of Editing

Image
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll just get right into on the second and third days of editin g. After adding the scenes in the office I finished adding the closing scenes of the murder and Jackie laughing and crying outside the home. The third day I had to work in the morning until 4. I decided it would be best to call for that day off and continue editing. So as soon as I woke up I went straight to editing. I reviewed my work from the last day and saw many minor problems which were resolved pretty easily. The next step was to figure out the titles and where to put them as well as adding the music. I found a great font on dafonts.com which fit perfectly for the films theme. I downloaded it and immediately began creating the titles. The next step was adding the title in between minute two and three. Premeire Pro had a graphics option which had a nice pop up screen where I can write what I wanted into the text box. I didn't like the graphic much but I used it and then edited it. I...

Almost there

Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be focusing on the second day of editing. I wasn't able to continue editing until days after on Saturday the 29th. Friday I had to work and by the time I was back I needed to go to sleep. I planned to edit in the morning the next day and then go to work. I had a lot of work in general from finishing the editing film to meet deadlines and other school work, I decided to take the day off. I was able to finish the majority of the film. I put everything the first minute to the final minute without graphics. I was mainly focused on minutes 3 to 4. We had planned the shots well for film. Although they didn't work out as well. I decided that it would be best to show cross cuts of different scenes and then eventually show the out come of them. That way it could have some form that wasn't just one shot after another. I thought it would be best to do it like that so that it seems like something is actually happening and not lose my viewers attenti...

And so it begins

Hey guys for this blog I'll be talking about the first day of editing on the film. Our final day of filming was on 27th, but I had started editing two days before on the 25th. I could only do the first two minutes of the film and it was mainly a rough draft. We didn't have all the shots of the film. We still needed to reshoot one scene and I was editing at school during class because I didn't have time outside of class. I started by reviewing all of the footage we had and keeping the ones that I can use. I ended up getting rid of over 15 videos that weren't usable at all and keep the rest leaving about 30. The first step after organizing was to put the scenes in order and follow through from there. I had already thought of doing a cross-cut for the first scene between Jackie and Queenie. That's why I had done the multiple different angles since we started filming. I cut the scenes into each part when they would go quiet and the next person would start talking. Luck...

Getting Everything Ready

Image
Hey guys for this blog I'll be focusing on the editing process for this film. To begin with I want to tell you a little of everything before we started editing the film and some problems that came with it. So originally all of our footage on the first day was filmed on Ben's iPhone. We decided this was the best option because he had the best phone and we didnt have our cameras with us on that day. Danniella decided it would be best to put all the footage into a cloud. It worked out in our benefit because everyone could access it and organize it for editing. On our second day of filming we had access to a camera so we put all of our footage onto an SD card that I supplied. When we finished that day we gave the SD card to Daniellla. She can put it into the drive so we can use it from there. On the third day of filming we also filmed with a camera and put the footage on an SD card. The same process was repeated. All the footage was put into the drive for easy access. Everything up...

"Ben stop laughing"

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll focus on the second part of the third day of shooting when Anya got there. As soon as Anya got here we had her change and get ready. Daniella and Ben already came dressed so we didn't have to worry. Daniella also brought the manila folder that would act as the folder with Jackie's contract. Anya got ready and Danniella immediately got to rehearsing lines. Anya is a really calm and sweet girl so trying to get her to play an evil villain and get loud was a little challenging. Anya eventually got her part and altered the lines so it would make sense to her. While they practiced their lines I kept filming just in case we got a good shot in it that I can use. We never had an official shot taken and more or less just kept filming. This was so Anya and Ben didn't feel so much pressure because Ben kept laughing when he was on camera. We took the first scene pretty easily and again tried to get a different angle for the scene. This time we got an ov...

Lights camera and action for the last time

Image
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be talking about the third and final day of filming. For this day we filmed on the 27th on a Thursday. We were cutting close to our editing days and we needed to get it done. We met at my house to finish the office scenes for the third and fourth minute. We had to film later than the previous days because both Anya and Ben had sports practice. Ben got out before Anya and as soon as he was ready I sent an Uber for him. He got to my house around 6:50 closer to 7:00pm. Daniella made it around the same time. I had already cleaned and set up my house to show the office. We waited for Anya to get here in order to film. In the meantime Danniella and I were trying to figure out the right angles for the shot. We were also figuring what kind of lighting we wanted. We tried using my kitchen light but it was too tinted for the camera. We decided to go with the dark and just use our flashlights like the last time. For this scene we went set up two flashlights an...

The In Between

Image
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be talking about the week before our second day of filming on the 23rd. After filming on the first day we filled in Anya on everything that happened the first day and decided that we would film again on the 23rd. Leading up to that date Daniellla had helped me get access to Adobe Premeire Pro so I can begin editing. She also uploaded all the videos we filmed on to google drive so we can have easy access to it. We took some videos and photos on Ben's phone and had those sent so we can get the different angles and bloopers. We decided the next steps were to figure out our location and plan for the second day of filming. Originally we thought it would be best to film the first two minutes of the film and get those out of the way. We also wanted to make sure that Anya was well enough to help us film so she we can get her scenes done. We weren't able to use Anya's house to film so we agreed on Danni's house. We were to film at the same ti...

Second day of shooting,,, again

Image
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be focusing on the second day of shooting and what happened when Anya got there. So as I said in the last blog, as we finished shooting the first scene successfully Anya had made it to the house. From there we came up with a plan on the next following shots. We wanted to go chronologically so we began shooting Jackie storming out of the house. Because it was dark and we had no lights we used our phones flashlights and shined in two different spots. One facing directly at Jackie the other getting the side of the face. We did this so the camera can pick up Danniella's face. Like the scene before we got two different angles. Repeated the same process with the flashlights. Our biggest issue was the wind and a car that had a loud engine in the back. We decided to keep it because it didn't interrupt anything Jackie was saying and it made it seem a little more real. As soon as we finished the scene, Anya went inside to change into her part while Da...

Second day of shooting

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be talking about the second day of filming and like last time it'll be split into two blogs. Let's get into it. So our second day of filming was in the beginning of the week on Sunday. I had just gotten off of work and were to meet at Danniella's house to begin shooting the first and final scenes of the film. I was first to get there around 6 o'clock. Danniella had already set the place to look like a mess as we originally had it. It was a bunch of liquor bottles, papers, mail that I brought, and then unwashed dishes. We even added a potato, because Danniella thought it would be funny. After we had the props in place we had to make the letter. Danniella would fold an envelope write "JACKIE" and place a blank paper inside. We printed out new copies of the storyboard, we charged the camera battery which Danniella supplied and set up tripods. The first opening shot was going to be a hand-held dolly where we show the kitchen as a ...

"Yeah, this is definitely the one"

Hey guys, for this blog I'll be talking on the second part of the first day of filming. By the time we finished filming the second and third minutes my brother-in-law had to leave. But luckily for us my sister made it home just at that time. We decided to take out my brother-in-law from the film and stick to only one bodyguard making it easier on the people we needed. My sister agreed to help filming and take the place of my brother. It worked out better because now he could play the dealer. These roles fit them so well that we were able to get all the shots done in less than 30 minutes. My sister changed into her costume which we changed around to make her seem more in character. While we re-shot the second and third minutes of the film my brother changed into his dealer outfit. By the time we were done with my sisters scenes my brother was ready. We filmed the shots in the gambling ring pretty fast. Ben played his role really well as the bodyguard staying in the back and quiet. ...

Lights, Camera... uh oh

Hey guys, for this blog I'll focus on the first day of filming. Yet again we ran into many other problems. So lets get into that before I get to filming. First off, we decided to change the names of our characters from Jack and Ann to Jackie and Queenie. We made this decision in order to relate it to the idea of playing cards. Anya got sick the week before the 17th and she wasn't able to make it to the first day of filming. Alright so now that's out of the way let's talk about the first day of filming. We decided that we would meet up around 6 and start getting ready by the time it's dark. Our first cast member, Ben, made it to the location, my house, around 5:50. We began to move out all paintings and pictures on the walls. Rearranging my living room into a different room and leaving only the table and two chairs needed for the film. Danniella made it around 6:40 and we began shooting. We originally planned on using my sister to help play another character but she...

Things Gone Wrong

Image
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll tell you about our first days of filming and all the issues we ran into. To start it off we were supposed to film toward the beginning of winter break, but we didn't. We were all too busy working the first half and the second half I was out of town so nothing was possible. We began to get everything situated so we can begin filming as soon as I got back. Our first official day of filming started 17th of January. It was about three weeks after we got from break. All the days before we had to work and were flooded with work coming back into school from break. Our plan at first was to film a week before the 17th because we did have many off days in the week, but we couldn't get rides situated for those days. On top of that the locations weren't available to film on those days. Before we started filming we needed to make sure that everything was set. We all decided on the tools needed to be brought. For the most part Danniella would provide ...

Our Storyboard

Image
Hey guys, this blog is going to be split with pictures and a little caption explaining what's going on. This is our current storyboard and it will more than likely not be exact to the film when it comes to it but we'll follow this is as closely as we can. See you for the production blogs!   This is the opening minute, where we wanted to show the dysfunction in Ash's family life. Here is he shown fighting with his partner Anna in their house. We plan to include a lot of trash and disorganization in the background, along with a lot of over-the-shoulder shots as they go back and forth. Here, Ash is officially kicked out of the house. His finding the red letter signifies the start of the plot rather than just exposition on how the family is. Ash goes to a secluded area to open the letter, signifying the secrecy and hidden nature of it. We wanted to show how quick Ash could be upset, so showing him upset at the letter was a way to convey that. It then cuts to Ash outside the gam...
