Issues with filming over spring break

Image
Hey guys, so as you can see it's been a while since I last uploaded. Spring break came around on the day I wrote my last blog and so until now I haven't worked on my final task. This isn't the only reason I haven't been unable to work. Unfortunately, my friend who plays one of the characters has tested positive for COVID. We had our suspicions about a day or two after filming when he started showing symptoms. Everyone involved including those in my house hold got tested as it was my house we used for the filming location. Fortunately we tested negative for COVID, not so lucky my friend did not and he had to begin his quarantine. To my knowledge currently only his mother contracted the virus and she is also making a strong recovery. While my friend is ok he did have some tough time during this and for that we'll be having to postpone filming for another week. He plans to get tested for COVID before we begin filming and so are my family and I.  Another thing to have ...

First day of Filming

Image
Hey guys, so for this blog I'll be telling you about my first day of filming. There is a lot that happened but I won't be getting into all of it. For now lets start from the beginning. We started early at 11 A.M. , I began dressing in my suit and realized that wearing the blazer wasn't the best idea. We decided to take it off and prepared the house for the scenes. We took down pictures so we can have blanks walls for the beginning scene, and by that time it was 12 P.M. when my friend who played David arrived. At that time we began to film the beginning scenes. We decided to go chronologically according to the storyboard because the sun was too bright and it would make us sweat which we didn't need for those scenes. We used my camera to film and the shots came out good. I did have to train my friend who didn't have much experience behind a camera. He learned enough to film the shots needed and we finished the scenes where my character, The Man, was indoors. While fi...

Finalizing costumes and Dealing with Equipment Issues

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be telling you about some issues I ran into while preparing to shoot for the weekend. I also wanted to address the fact that I have finalized costumes for the characters. Something I missed when planning for the film was bringing the characters to life. Of course I mean this figuratively, but I say this to emphasis the importance that these costumes have on my film. Since I play The Man and the character plays a big role in setting the mood for the film I wanted to make everything perfect. The costumes for the other characters were easier to design and it didn't take much to bring these characters to life when considering their outfits. There only scenes are indoors and one of them in athletic clothes. The Man is seen getting ready in the opening film of the scene, until now I wasn't sure how to dress him, but thanks to the fedora that I wanted to add I decided to wear a suit. For Leo and David, they will wear normal sleeping clothes and David ...

Production Blog - Gathering Props and Training Actors

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be talking about the production part of my final task. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to film this week as I had planned. Unexpected events came up with my family and I was unable to film. Although I wasn't able to film I took the week to finalize shots and scenes. I also practiced lines with my actors so they would know how I want to portray the characters. When creating these characters I already had my actors in mind so I slightly based the characters of their personalities. There isn't much dialogue in my film so going through lines was easy. I wasn't able to have one of the two other actors here so I could only practice with my brother who plays the character Leo. We went through the actions of the character following the storyboard so that he could remember and it'll make it easier when it came to the actual date of filming. While I did prepare my actors the best I could over the week I also prepared myself by practicing camera ...

Filming & Editing- Before production: Final Task

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be telling you about my filming and editing for the final task. As I'm writing this I haven't started filming for the final task. As I explained in my schedule blog I'll be filming this weekend. The reason for this is because of my actors personal schedule. They are only available through the weekend and that works with my schedule. I don't plan on changing any locations for my filming and I already have permission to film in these places. I do however plan to change some of the shots in my film. I haven't decided at this point because I haven't filmed, but knowing the difficulty of some scenes, because of the lack of equipment, I may need to reconsider certain scenes. I don't plan on having to stop filming or change plans with filming due to weather since most of these scenes can benefit from the weather, like rain or heavy wind. There are some issues that may rise during filming. The cameras I'm using are originally me...

Planning for the Final Task: Story Board

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be going over my storyboard for my opening sequence. I'll describe what's going on in this blog in case the words aren't legible.  First Page: The first page shows a man getting ready, putting on his shirt. The scene switches to the man tying his shoes and then again to him grabbing a necklace. Everything up to this point is in black and white, when the man reaches for the fedora color comes to the screen as he puts it on. It shows a downwards tilt of The Mans face as he places it on his head. The scene then shows him in front of a stair case which he begins to climb. Second Page: The second page shows The Man outside the door opening it and taking a step inside a house, the scene switches to a close up of the first foot inside the house. It switches again with no transition to the man walking down a hallway to a door. This is shot in a hand-held over-the-shoulder dolly shot. The scene then shows the man reaching his hand towards a boy slee...

Planning for the Final Task: Scripts

Running water and brushing against teeth. Scene 4: no dialogue. Eggs cooking in a pan, and the noise of a plate and spatula clanging. Scene 5:  - David: "So, where's my food Leo?" - Leo: "Shut up, be happy I'm making you anything."  Scene 6:  - David: "Wow, you really went all out making these." - Leo: "Yeah, I know. You see I do know how to cook."  - David: "Watch it! I never said that." Scene 7: Running water and plates clattering. - Leo: "Aren't you going for a run today?" - David: "Yeah, I found this new route down by Griffin. Next to a train track and some houses." - Leo: "Alright well go get ready you know they don't want you out the...

Planning for the Final Task: Schedule, Location, and more

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be talking about many things. I'll address my schedule, location, participants, and health and safety. Schedule:  For this project I plan on shooting throughout the weekend. Being that most of my participants are high school students and they have their duties, filming through the weekend would be best. I plan to begin editing after I finish shooting. I do plan on filming any shots that I may have forgotten or need to try again during the editing process if needed. My schedule will look like this. Shooting- March 6th and 7th and March 13th and 14th if needed. During the 6th and 7th I'll be shooting all shots in the outside location and filming any shots I can on the inside. The 13th and 14th will be to film any shots that I may have not gotten Editing- I'll be editing on Adobe Premiere Pro during March 8th and 14th. I'll be adding finishing touches throughout the week and finalizing by the 14th. Location:  My two locations will be at my...

Planning for the Final Task: Title Design

Image
Hey guys, for this blog I'll be showing you my title design for my opening sequence. My genre for this opening sequence is thriller, and for that reason I want to give the titles a color that draws attention and brings suspense. In order to do that I believed that the best font would be Franklin Gothic Heavy. It looks like   THIS. The reason behind choosing this font although it is pretty similar to many is because it offers a strong look. I plan on using white colored font and presenting the titles in a dark lower third of the screen. I plan on using a fade in effect to show the title and a fade out effect to make it disappear. The titles will all be in capital letters as well as the name. I don't plan on changing the font size of the titles or names, but they may look bigger on screen than they do here. To clarify, I  don't want the black box behind the actual words and it's only there to represent the white. I want my title to represent my opening sequence. By usin...
